Pulling mercruiser bbc?
hi, i was getting started on the project boat today and pulled the bravo 2 off. I was going to get started on pulling the engine and just wanted to see if it was as easy as it looks. It would appear that there are two bolts to the transom unit and the two engine mounts? There are some assorted hoses, throttle and shift cables, but not much electrical as it’s never run in this boat. I can deal with the assorted stuff, I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything big. There is a small unit connected off to the side, power steering unit? I guess I can’t post pictures yet. Generally it's...
2 power steering lines to the rack 2 rear motor mount bolts front motor mounts exhaust 1 throttle cable 2 shift cables...control cable and intermediate cable water hose from transom to water pump fuel line power to starter ground usually to bell housing stud towards the top and one on the other side that connects to transom assembly 1 main round engine harness trim sender and limit switch wires should be up top towards the rear of the intake...they have bullet type plugs so DON'T cut them!! depending on configuration outdrive bottle hose and wires but generally those are on the engine with the bottle Those should be the big ticket items connecting it to the boat |
When you clean the bilge afterwards and find the 2 large fiber washers and some funny looking lock-washers (Merc calls them springs), save them. They are needed at the rear mount when you re-install the eng.

Thanks guys! Looks like somebody already cut the bullet connectors off the trim switches. It’s the trim pump I was looking at, no power steering. One forward engine mount is a solid mass of rust, looks like I can remove it from the bracket to the stringer easier. Remote oil filter and oil cooler has some crazy stupid mounting bracket, took an hour to get those bolts off. Looks like I’m ready to hoist, just need to figure out how to get the engine 10 feet up! Yeah, I don’t have any of those. :-( is pulling an engine a common thing for people? I might have to dig up a gantry if I’m going to do this more than once. Jason |
Gantry crane is the way to go if your going to pull them often. |

It’s no big deal really. Just remember you have to lift the entire thing over the side of the boat. So if you’re pulling it in a building you need a high clearance. What BBWTSGGhHYy said.
