Default Why do my Oil Filters get so Tight

I only put my oil filters hand tight, but every time I change my oil the filters it feels like Bigfoot put on the filters why is that? Filters are Wix gold 1060.

Are you putting a light film of oil on the seal?

how tight is hand tight??? ....you only need to go 1/4 to 1 full turn after the filter makes contact with the housing/ block depending on filter mfg reccomendations

All mine do the same thing, I can't believe how tight they get. I have actually broken the remote oil filter mount removing one.

Same thing here. Always put them on by hand but rarely can I get them off w/o a filter wrench. Maybe the seal swells just slightly?? Seals properties change over time??

I don’t have this problem when I change the oil in my trucks.

It would be interesting to see if it is simply the heat-soak from being in a closed engine compartment x "X" hours between changes is the actual culprit in terms of actually effecting the thin barrier film of oil or the sealing ring

Always harder to remove cold, which is when we typically change the oil in a boat.
