Reading this thread with some interest as I am pondering doing intercooler deal again. On the fence as I am not sure I really need to do them. Right now, carbs on top of 10-71's Hi Helix, sitting on Dart tunnel rams. 48T top, 46T bottom with 6.3# at 5500. Put a thermo couple at air inlet into flame arrestor, and a thermo into intake. Ambient outside was 89-90, cruising at 3000, 115 deg. going into motor and 176 inside intake. At 4000 intake went to 169, at 5000 intake went to 164. From what I have seen on dyno runs a good cooler will lower temp maybe 30-35 degrees? Now the trade off, the Dart TR really flows well in midrange and up. Love to get a cooler on top of intake, mount some injectors in intake at the port. But no real estate. Any idea what I would be looking at with a cooler? Looks like 110-120 temp is where a good cooler would be?

I ran without intercoolers for a long time , 150* most of the time .
I added intercoolers for less chance of detonation and more power when it`s hot out . With intercoolers I run about 109* lake michigan water . 120* LOTO hot tub water |
Motor Trend info really good! Thanks for pointing out the find. Keith Eickert talked me into trying them back in 2005 or so. KE has never done a change comparison like the videos did. However, KE has done a whole bunch of builds using them versus stock supercharger intakes and has always maintained the Dart Tunnel Ram does extremely well until you get up in boost levels. Thanks!

Consensus is the dart needs to be ported for the modern 540+ big blocks. Maybe it’s optimized for smaller motor OTB?

I am thinking you are referring to N/A apps and not supercharged stuff. I don't believe many folks are mounting this stuff on tunnel rams. Plenum discplacement probably comes into play as well.?
I’m not sure if I’ve seen a comprehensive back to back on TRs. Engine masters’ Wilson ported dart TR works great. And the profiler generally picks up over the stock dart, from yellowbullet consensus of people that tried both. |
Dan,
Did you powder coat, spray automotive paint or rattle can:) the Whipples white? Asking for a friend... |

Profiler is the king of otb. Richie Zul sure built slot of Dart TR motors for offshore boats. Sorry for hijack. Belt driven intake manifolds are better for sure :) |
