Howards cams 120325-08, hydraulic roller retrofit, 229/[email protected]. .590intake, .607 exh, 108 lobe seperation.
This is the cam I used when I built a 1966 396 a few years back for a project car that never happened, ended up stuffing the engine in my wife’s 76 Chevy truck. 10-1 pistons small early closed chamber (original 360hp 396, iirc they are 98cc), performer rpm air gap, rest of the typical goodies. It’s very streetable, I’m happy with the cam/engine combo. Its a blast to drive, my only complaints About the engine/cam choice are related to everything that happens from the bellhousing back.....it’d be a blast in a vette! |
I used the entire Howard’s cam/lifter/pushrod packages. Nice thing too was is you wanted to change the lobe sep on the cam, just change the last 2 digits of the part # to what ya want for lobe sep xxxxxx-08 is 108, xxxxxx-10 is 110 etc.
I talked to there tech line when I was picking it out and they were definitely helpful, plus American made! |
I’ve got a few vids I could send of it running if ya wanted,

I put a Gen 6 cam in a MKIV block. Just had to enlarge holes on the retainer a few thousandths and used an OEM timing chain. https://www.gmperformancemotor.com/parts/12371053.html . |

I use Gen VI cams in MK-IV blocks all the time. I like using the retaining plate versus a cam button and most blocks have the ability to use it.
