496 mag ho oil pressure

Hi.
Got a Mercruiser 496 Mag Ho witch I took out for the first time after winter.
I noticed that the oil pressure was varying with the RPM.
I think I had about 35 psi on idling, when cruising on 3000 rpm I think it was about 45 psi and when going back to idle it dropped to about 22-25 psi, and then building up to 35 again.

is this normal? Can’t say I noticed this last year.

by the way, I got the pro charger turbo system installed if that matters.

That sounds normal. I have a 496HO with a whipple supercharger on it. Keep an eye on your oil temperature. I had to add a gauge to see this. Keep it below about 240 degrees.

doesn't that kit use the engine oil to oil the hair dryer or is it self contained

Sounds good. I’m steady at 140 on the temp

Oil pressure will change with RPM because because oil pump speed changes. Don’t know the specs on 496 but 35 at hot idle sounds great. Pressure drop after a run is due to oil getting hot and then comes back up as oil cools at idle. My opinion- note what you have and watch for change over summer, that would indicate a problem.

Who ever installed it will know. Also, If you have the part# you an look it up.

You can get Prochargers set up for self oiling or oiled from engine. Most choose self oiling now, but never assume what you have if you aren’t sure.

Stupid question, but what difference does it make, Is one better than the other?

if the kit is engine oiled/cooled then that could explain some the flux in pressure you didnt see last yr
