Compared to what other brands? This is the first I have ever heard of Shell filters. I'll have to do some research.

Did some research. They are just rebranded Purolator filters. Appears to be built using Purolators older build quality, which was good.

&A came from Wix's website.....

Q:
I bought 2 of the racing filters after reading they perform well for high perf motors. My problem and question is after reading the filter box, they warn not for street use. Is there something in the filter requiring higher oil pressure or ???. I was going to return the filter because of this warning. My motor is a Chev SB 350 in a Chevelle.

A:
Tony, thank you for your question. The reason these filters are not intended for street use is the micron rating. These filters will capture particles as small as 61 microns. WIX-51069 filters, for example, will capture particles as small as 21 microns. The race filters are less restrictive, and allow for more flow. However, they are meant to be used once and thrown away (and the oil replaced with clean, race oil). They should not be used on a vehicle that is driven regularly. They will not filter the finer particles that come from the wear and tear of driving a car for 3,000 miles before changing the oil and filter. Those fine particles in the oil can cause wear, damage, and restriction to oil flow throughout the engine, over time. We hope that helps clear things up for you. If you drive your car regularly, we would recommend using a filter with a smaller micron rating, like the WIX-51069.

Use the regular Wix oil filters. IMO!!

Pure Power makes reusable filters. Aluminum housing and stainless mesh filter material. Even the short version filters great. We've installed them on race engines and hi-performance street cars with excellent results. One of the things we've noticed is that on the majority of customers who run regular filters develope a light film coating the bottom of the oil pan. With the Pure Power that's never there. It's laying on the bottom of the filter. There's several copies of this filter out there that use the same mesh filter media. Just can't remember the different names. Plus you can clean them out and reuse them almost infinitely.

Has anyone looked at the new FRAM Ultra Synthetic? I've used the Mobil1 1 M302A for years but saw a video of a guy cutting both of these up, and the FRAM looks really well (and better) built (unlike all the older videos I've seen) so tempting to use the FRAM Ultra. XG5 (which shows as the cross-reference for the XIX 51060XP as well)

Here were the results of the engine masters test. I wish they would have had the Mobil 1 M302A in the test.

I stand corrected, media is synthetic blend on K&N. This was the last one I cut open.
