Default 500efi - injector tick

Fairly certain it’s common…just wanted to get feedback from fellow 500 efi owners. Or anyone else who has been in a bilge with the 500efi running.

aside from the swoosh sound from intake. I can hear all the injectors ticking as it runs. Normal?

Nope - never heard any noticeable ticking but honestly did not put my ear close to them! If they are the original injectors(?) you may want to have them tested as they have been known to fail with age and potentially cause engine problems. There are some threads from ~4 years ago on the 500 EFI injector topic.

I didn’t record sound…will next time I’m near the boat. Sounds similar to this. I read the threads you are talking about. Problem is there are no known direct replacements. And chances are if we do clean and test them they will fail. So not sure what to do

No experience with 500EFI but pretty certain I hear injectors ticking in my 502Mag. Very noticeable in fuel rail with stethoscope.
Been under hood of many automobiles that you could hear injectors

Yes, it is normal for them to tick. It's a solenoid opening and closing.
You can send them here to be cleaned and checked out:

It's a wise investment. On my race car, I even send brand new injectors to my flow testing buddy before they go into the car. He has found bad NEW injectors.

the issue as mentioned…if there are bad injectors. Which is highly likely…not sure what to do about it. Aftermarket direct replacement injectors are not available. To my knowledge.

So just send them out and have them cleaned and rebuilt. Chances are the components are replaceable. Most are very similar. BUP aka John at the link I mentioned is a straight shooter. He'll tell you your options.

I’ve been in contact with BUP for the last 2-3 years. He used to have direct replacements but Bosch stopped making them. So now he is trying to source new ones.

I know he is banned. So I’ll keep people posted. For anyone interested.

John, (The link Sdywayz posted) has direct replacement injectors for the HP500 EFI motors. It took him a long time but he finally found some.

EDIT:
Just read the comment above,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, that sucks.
