Not sure why e85 mileage would go to crap in the winter? It should actually be better than summer (in general) because it will probably be e70, more btu's per gallon. I had my car out in 0-5* air temps. If the a/f is to rich, I've had misfires (10.8:1 on very low boost). I did have to add a degree or 2 in the very cold start coolant temp table to help it light off easier in very cold temps. Fantastic, yes there are a lot of misconseptions, not liking the cold is apparently one of them .

You don't want to skimp on the fuel system. How much hp are you looking to go? What injectors are you running? I wanna turn it down to 900-950hp , my original thoughts were to keep cylinder pressure and detonation down but with E85, extra cooling and octane maybe a bit more.
(10) 100lbs injectors in the back of the blower, another 8 in the runners (42lbs/hr)

I made just shy of 1100rwhp and my 220lb injectors were at 85% duty cycle. Fp was just starting to drop on my last 30psi pull. I'm running a Bosch 044 pump full time and I have a weldon 2035 pump with a boost a pump on it turned on at 1psi. On the dyno I had the boost a pump turned down/ off. After the last pump I raised the pump to get the flow higher. I'm running-10 feed/-8 return. All my lines are -10an return included.

Pump e85 is about the same price per mpg as premium, by me. Comparing it price wise to race gas isn't even close.

I only had one issue with the e85. The one time I didn't run alcohol lube, I removed the engine and the injectors were sitting for about a year. 6 were stuck closed when I went to start it. They were able to be freed without buying new$1800 injectors, thank God lol.

I never had any issue with moisture/ water in the fuel. My car would sit for months at a time during the winter/ bad weather. I would just turn the key and go. Never worried about old/stale fuel. You shouldn't run paper filters. Run stainless mesh. I ordered these , probably a paper filter but can be replaced with mesh

They go down to 10 micron and lower now. Not sure what mpg or gpm you do will burn. As a rough rule every 10% ethanol will be a 3-4% difference in fuel burn. Will going from e50 to e70/85 make that big of a mileage difference where you won't make it home?
I have smaller tanks, 60 gallons each. Shouldn`t be an issue for most weekends and if i`m on a longer run i can just fill up with 91..
How is tuning when it comes to a flex sensor of do you just have a E85 tune?

Good info thanx !

That filter/ water separator could work. I would run it and see how it does. How much hp will you be making? I know a lot of ecu's do a linear fuel percentage adjustment for flex fuel. Haltech is one, not sure about the holley. You could start with that in the table. That should get you pretty close. I run my ecu in open loop, so I try to get mine dialed in. A few years back I started with pump and slowly added e85 to get a base tune. I got it close than called it a day. I run it on e85 100% of the time as it is easy to get where I live. Just wanted to have the ability to run anything if I needed to.

When I bought my 03 Suburban Gas prices hit $4 and e85 was heavily discounted so I ran e85 at $2.50. I learned you need to change your fuel filter regularly with e85. After I replaced my first fuel pump, I changed it every other oil change. Second fuel pump has over 250k on it and no issues. I did like the power boost especially when towing. I also use Amsoil gas treatment regularly.

I run a GM flex sensor in my street car with 40% ethanol and I like the fuel, I like the sensor, I like how the ecu manages my timing and boost if I can’t get ethanol or get the mix wrong. I think filling at 2 pumps to get the mix is completely annoying.

I agree, I don’t think there will be a big benefit unless you’re planning on doing pulley swaps as the E85 runs out.

That being said, your engines would be absolutely wild boosted up and tuned up for E85.

You could ditch the flex sensor and just dump Av gas in it when it’s on the trailer, also cheapish and you don’t need to remap. Gets you the same benefit of a little insurance. Although O2 sensors don’t like lead.

Does AV gas have lead in it?

Yes, it’s called low lead. But that’s a bit of mismomer. I think it’s just lower than it used to be.

Yeah I can see how that might be a pain.
Do you have Holley?

I usually grab the opposite pump if available , I could do one E85 one 91 , and switch.
