IC plumbing - is this crazy?

Looking at adding a intercooler to my roots set up.
The idea of drilling holes to add a transom pick up dosent really appeal to me.
so!
Has anyone use a drive shower style pick up? Mounted to the out drive?

Then have the IC dump back onto the drive?

Why can’t you do it off the bravo pump. T with say a 5-10psi regulator do it doesn’t cool off at idle. ?

An Intercooler needs lots of volume of water and about 20psi of pressure.
None of the above are sufficient especially a small drive shower pickup, that would be a complete waste of time and $$.
Transom pickup is easy if the engines are out .

LTZ,

Pretty sure the IC water for the ProCharger on our boat is just tapped off the incoming sea water.

Thanks. Brad.

Depends on if you want it to actually function...not being a smarta$$ but if you tee it off like that you won't get enough flow through it to actually make a difference in my opinion. I know you don't want to put holes in the transom but a dedicated pickup and dump is really the only way to make it function without a dual stage water pump but then you can run into fuel puddling issues if it runs water through it at an idle. I made a pickup for mine to go better with my setup as none of the store bought ones would really work out and then made a twin dumps that incorporate the -4 an dumps from the back of the engine and the -12 an dumps from the IC. I start seeing pressure as I'm coming on plane and WOT I see about 20-25 lbs at the inlet.

my worry with the T is not enough water/ flow to feed the motor and the cooler. its a standard XR bravo 1 drive with the duel pickups.

i dont want to pull the motor if i dont have to. i know thats the better way to do it i just done have a place close enough to do it that i feel would do it right that make it worth while at this point at time. not very many "fast" boats up there

my doofie thoughts where this.
the back of the hull/ transom is going to see the same kidna water conditions as the cavitation plate - i think, or am i wrong?

https://teaguecustommarine.com/ss-fl...wer-2-bolt-7-8

have some thing like that mounted, run a line into the cooler, run the pressure valve on the dump so it acts as the regulator if she pulls air or anything so i don't air pack the cooler
figure at idle and low speeds wont have enough pressure to worry about fuel puddling

very much a noob in this area so please give any and all input

I don't think you will get anywhere near the volume and pressure out of that setup...I see what you're trying to do but don't think especially being that far back on the drive you won't see the amount of "clean" water back there like you would on the bottom of the boat at the transom. Mine is mounted off center and is long enough that I can easily get to it with the motor in...not sure of your setup or what kind of room you have.

LTZCrew 05-04-2023 12:04 PM

the prop would create "dirty" water and mounting a pick up at the leading edge of the drive seems like a bad idea - comes loose and the prop eats it haha
its a 575sci in a shockwave tremor.

ill probably have to put a pin in this and just do it right. no" easy or quick horsepower"

BBYSTWY 05-04-2023 12:07 PM

Exactly...can you get down beside the motor to mount one? you can drill it from the outside...I think mine is about 18-20ish inches off the center line...maybe a little more.
