Default 454/330 ----> 500hp cam selection

Curious on a cam selection for a 454/330 that I am refreshing.... Short history was it had already been built up, with Edelbrock Performer RPM 6155 heads, Crane 134561 hyd. flat tappet cam (236/246 @ .050, .553/.571, 114 lsa), and Edelbrock 7562 dual plane intake. Ran amazing in a 24 x 7 Sunsation Rocket up to 75mph. Pulled it from boat 9+ years ago and sold the boat. It sat in my garage all that time till I just had the block cleaned up at machine shop and heads gone over. I then installed new rod/main bearings, new rings getting most of the short block together but need to decide on a cam.

Plan with the motor is just a budget build to get the thing together and out of the way in the garage since its been in pieces forever... It won't even work as a back-up motor for my current boat, so it'll either get sold after being completed and ran on dyno OR I may grab an old hot rod, muscle car, etc roller that just needs a motor to throw it into. I'd like to get this built up to 500hp, and from what people were telling me that's about what was needed to push a 24 x 7 to 75 mph.

I prefer to find an off the shelf cam rather than waiting months for a custom grind...
I also don't want to go hyd. flat tappet again with the poor quality control these days and I have a set of isky retro hyd. roller lifters here from another project...
That said, there are 2 marine specific cams that seem to be readily available I'm considering:
Comp 11-451-8: 230 int./236 exh. @ .050, 0.547 int./0.547 exh., 112lsa
Comp 11-456-8:
242 int./248 exh. @ .050, 0.566 int./0.566 exh., 112lsa

My old cam was somewhere in the middle of these 2.... What would you guys suggest between these 2? OR are there any other off the shelf cams available that you'd recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Hows this going to affect performance? Also, with that much lift with the stock pistons is it likely to have any clearance issues?

Does your exhaust setup support 500hp? That would be the first thing to look at

I ran that same cam I believe if it’s the 502/465 hp carb cam. Ran in a twin engine 28 challenger with ported dart 265 cc oval port heads and loved them. Lightning headers.

Base was 454/330 with mag alum pistons.

Would not go bigger than 230/236 @0.050" with stock merc exhaust. My 509cid with 230/236 112lsa hyd roller peaked at 5300/5400rpm. You have 54cid less, so it might peak near 6000rpm. You may be near the limits of cast internals.

The exhaust will support it, had EMI Thunder with dry to the tip tails and wouldn't do anything less than that. Do you think the exhaust held up yours from going over 5300?
Im not looking to go to far past 5500, 6k max

I think the 465 cam is slightly different but very close to my old flat tappet Crane can... 465 specs per oso thread is 240º/250º - 559"/.578" - LSA 110º + 5º
It's a shame Crane is gone
