I used those Wix racing filters for a long time and my bearings never looked very good .. is it becaus it`s a "racing filter" with 61 microns? Maybe, maybe not.
Engine masters did an episode and the K&N had best flow and filtration, they stopped making it in my size. New engines get 20 micron filters.. I found one that is quite long lol https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...3bc63f227a.jpg I'm switching to these though as I refuse to use the WIX Racing ones. This "racing" version is built better than the Fram stuff we are used to from what I've read and comparable to the K&N. Fram HP6A Fram HP Series Oil Filters | Summit Racing |
The Fleetguard Stratapore oil filters are amazing.
Keeps my Cummins Common Rail diesel engine oil really clean...never gets non-transparent before my 5k+ mile oil change. With 12+ quarts in the pan/filter. Not sure if any thread sizes would fit, but surely a custom setup would bolt on easily. Cat oil filters may be another option. Most guys are changing oil at 25hrs? Anyone ever do any sampling at the 25hr mark? System 1 re-usable wire mesh oil filters work well. Get to inspect any potential metals etc. They have various micron screens. After getting screwed with an oil bypass passing metals, I lean towards a well setup oil system with no bypass. Twin filters or a one large enough to take the pressure is essential. |
I've tested oil at several intervals below 25hrs. What I found on my 3.3 whipple engine is that the fuel dilution just begins at around 20+ hours, so I change oil at 20hrs. Metals and contaminants have been very clean with K&N, Moroso, and the Delco filters I've run.

I have been running double Napa Gold 1515 filters on a set of 509s. Recently pulled engines with close to 800 hours. Bearings were in near new condition. Oil changed at 50 hour intervals.
Not bad! |
I use a K&N HP-3002 and have been very pleased with it.

Yes, napa gold is a wix filter.

I use a lot of filters. For work and myself. Mostly Wix.
Here's a concerning one from a few weeks ago. Look inside. It’s a new, not installed one. :( https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...7674bd37e.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...d8cd0692b.jpeg |
