So that is not correct either. That is basically making a giant vacuum leak.

Well why does it say in the carb instructions to put it there? Some of the stock photos ive een using are from the installation manual. I might have to ask holley about it if that's the case.

That is where you put it IF you have a PCV valve. You DO NOT have a pcv setup. You simply have two breathers on the valve covers. That is assuming your other valve cover is the same.

Summer,
Pleeeeze dont take this the wrong way ..... I simply want to help you. Its very obvious that you do not understand the basic operation of the breather system or the fuel pump overflow system. I will keep trying to help you get it figured out but it might make it a lot easier if you have a local marina that you can trailer the boat to and have them show you how to hook it up.

Post a picture of your engine from further up so we can see all of the hoses going to the valve covers etc. I think your best bet will be to buy the correct flame arrestor that is similar to the one on the picture I posted in reply #8 then hook the two hoses from the breathers to the two fittings on the sides of the flame arrestor and hook your fuel pump overflow tube to the other small fitting and be done with it.

The mech fuel pump hose fitting is in chamber just over the diaphragm. Please study the diagram and try to understand:

You need something like this but this one does not have the fuel pump tube. The two hoses from your valve covers would go to the two tubes on the Flame Arrestor.

Ok, Here is two pictures of one of the Mercruiser 454's in my cousins boat. If you look closely at the first picture of the fuel pump side you can see the small yellow tube that goes from the fuel pump up to the flame arrestor. You can also see the two hoses going from the valve covers to the flame arrestor. The Mercury Racing flame arrestor on his engine is exactly what you need. This is basically how your engine should be set up.

Bill I hear ya. Obviously I want to do it right and I just bought this boat last year with the motor done up. It's been like this for 4 years so all this info is new to me as im a bit unfamiliar with carburetor performance motors. Id rather do the work myself to save money and learn what i have. Here is a pic of the motor sorry its getting dark. And also i have this mr gasket evacuation kit from holley. Im assuming after this is all done im gonna have to re tune my carb?
Also i found out the pump i have is a Holley. Is it possible to rebuild? I can't find it anywhere maybe discontinued? If not then I have to figure out what pump i need for my application. I'm gonna try and install a pressure gauge tomorrow to see what my pressure is.
