The rubber lines
ok i get it
but
the cooler itself? Should not have any metal debris stuck in the cast compated to rubber line...
still recommend changing cooler?
i got like 3 cooler per engine, last time i changed one it was like 1000 plus $
so 2-3k of oil cooler change to make sure?

Not sure what Mercruiser recommendations are, but I was a GM trans technician for 37 years and when it came down to air conditioning lines and transmission lines if they were rubber and something come apart, they would often recommend you replace the lines because the metal would stick onto the inner wall of the hose and slowly loosen up and mix with your oil
