I have dry to tip with SS rings, and gaskets. The gap filled with 4200. Wish it was that easy.

Guys,

Getting ready to reinstall these, using 4200. What do we use to clean up the overage? I don't think I want to use acetone or MEK like the tube suggests. It says to not use alcohols, as it will inhibit curing. Kinda wish I'd read that before I installed the bracket and bulkhead fittings for my steering conversion....

Thanks. Brad.

Mine was put together with a regular rubber gasket that goes between the flange and the transom. They seal up great. Boat is 38yrs old and transom is as dry as the day it was built. I'd find the proper gasket before gluing everything together when you don't have to.

i have used a plastic razor blade followed by acetone, then wipe with fresh water soft cloth.
i also use blue painters tape to ensure the 4200 only goes where i want it, once done you can remove the tape and GENTLY fair the seam if its standing to proud on the tape edge,
SLOW and steady

Mineral spirits

Wildman_grafix 12-13-2025 09:27 AM

What powerboat said. But acetone doesn’t seem to bother the gel.

just wax good after.

Looks like I'm a little late on on this one, but these worked great for me 4" Slip-On Silent Seal Flap Assembly. Hopefully this helps out the next person that has to do this.
