jdnca1, I like Barry Grants, too. They work just great usually with nothing more than a jet change. rumrunner seems to know his stuff very well. I think a carb works the best when it is JUST big enough. Sometimes we recommend out-of-the-box carbs, sometimes with power valve indexing on blower motors, but sometimes a Barry Grant is just what the doctor ordered, too.
Too many people think they need the biggest they can get or a Dominator will outrun anything. Sometimes they will, but not if they are too big.

I'll just send my motor to you (even though it runs great), I'M SURE YOUR JUST TRYING TO HELP! SURE IS GOOD YOU CAME ALONG, BECAUSE WE WERE ALL JUST MEDDLING IN OUR OWN $HIT UNTIL LATELY! COME TO THINK OF IT, WHY DID WE BOTHER TO HAVE A TECH Q&A BEFORE YOU GUYS BLESSED US WITH YOUR PRESENCE?WONDER WHY ANYONE ELSE WOULD EVEN BOTHER TO GO TO THE DYNO WITH OUT YOU GUYS AROUND, THE'RE JUST WASTING THEIR TIME! SAY, YOU WOULDN'T HAPPEN TO HAVE SOME PROMOTIONAL LITERATURE YOU COULD SEND ME? HUH? I HAVEN'T QUITE ACHIEVED OVERLOAD YET! YELLING HAS HELPED THOUGH.

Brad, you never did tell me where you found extra horsepwer in the ignition! I need to know all I can too. You may have found something that can help us all!!!
I, at least, will try not to waste people's time. I have done a lot over the years and seen too many good people waste a lot of time and money on things that don't do what they wanted. Good thing they don't require an intelligence test to get on the board

Fair enough,
The difference came through the change from TBV V-6 module to Aftermarket CD ignition (msd). Have used Merc V-6 module on several other motors, both NA and smaller blower motors and never had an issue. Knew this engine was not running well and could not keep plugs from totally fouling in minutes, even at cruise. Everybody wanted to start dicking with the carbs. I didn't pay nickerson for these custom carbs, only to bastardize them, so I tried everything else I could think of. Even had installed 6AL box, but at the last minute on the ramp, could not get it wired correctly. Pulled and put on dyno. Engine only made 770hp. Installed dyno distrib with 7m box and immediately made ~50 more hp. Did several more pulls fooling around with small items. With every pull, plugs continued clearing up. Dyno guy checked harmonic balancer vs True TDC. Advance timing to a true 30-31 degrees and gained ~45hp. Re-installed in boat and got gearing in sync with dyno sheet. Later on, sold entire induction system in favor of Blower shop 8_71 with their new intercooler and race demon carbs. Several well known names in the industry told me that the now Holley 420s were not as efficient as they once were, and that it might be a little on the small side for the motor at that boost (25%overdrive). Boat gained almost 15mph through these events.

I agree on the waste, although I'm sure I don't have the experience of many (including you) on the board. There have been people on this board that have come and gone, proclaiming to be the savior of all engine wants, only to either disappear, or worse, disappear with a board member's money (or boat). Kind of builds a reaction mechanism, if you know what I mean.

thanks for the info!! I have been doing performance work for a long time. I learned what I know through experience and advice from some very good people. I have had bad advise, too. I stand behind the advise I give and will not tell you to do anything I wouldn't do on my stuff. I hear horror stories every day and I will do my best to see NO ONE has a problem with me or anyone else. Everyone makes mistakes, but if you learn from them, you are better off.
I asked G-Force to reveal his experience after it is done.
I think he will be very happy

On the other hand, I did purchase a pair of billet top caps from blown1500 and bobby daniels with a water cooling effect for the drive! I took them over to Mr.Gadget's house and he has an awsome micrometer set that mic all kinds of different things and angles, etc. He mic'd all the clearances and tolerances of those top caps made by bobby daniels and they are better than the top caps that come from the Merc factory!!! They were some very NICE looking and precision machined pieces. They were EVERYTHING that blown1500 and bobby daniels said they were EXCEPT they accidently sent me the wrong ones! I needed the ones for the Bravo XR and they sent me ones for the standard Bravo---no problem it all being taken care of. Plus they also sent me some aluminium fitting wrenches that were beautifully done by their own machine shop that look just incredible.
Also, I've always said to have one's stuff done as close to home as you can, but now I am breaking one of my own cardinal rules here. I also (like G-force) will be taking my boat/engines down to Blown1500's shop within the next few weeks. If any of you guys have any questions about the progress and work done by Blown1500 and his shop I will be glad to answer. So far everything is on the "up and up"!
