BAD-HABIT,
DUI knows a lot about cars and boats. They do need all the info and the more accuratly you answer their questions, the better the distributor will work.

My distributor came with the curve DUI recommended. It wasn't quite right and honestly, I don't remember the details. However, I called them, I told them what I wanted and they sent me another set of weights and springs. I installed the new parts and haven't touched it since.

I'm doing a car engine right now and unless I need something specific to mate with the fuel injection, I will certainly buy another DUI distributor.

Well Guys I went ahead and did it. I ordered my D.U.I. distributor today. Dennis I put a plug in for ya. I mentioned Family and Performance Boating Magazine and told them you write for them and might be interested using them for a buildup....(As long as mine turns out ok ) Also gave a plug for the board here......I will let everyone know how it works out. Thanks Deniss,Blown,Gary,Tom R. and JonJan.

The marine doesn't have a vacuum advance. The cap is sealed and spark arrested. And it's coast guard certified. But that only matters if your boat explodes.

I see the advertisements of those D.U.I. folks periodically and have always wondered how they would work for in Hi-Perf marine applications where the RPM's are constantly high (to a degree) and not like a road vehicle where they go up to a certain RPM and shift and then come back down and run at lower RPM levels. They make a battery that is supposed to be pretty KILLER too that hooks into the system, but is not mandatory.

Ok,thanks for the info. It sounds pretty much like the marine conversion units I build. Silicone gasketed to seal coil cover and cap, vac. advance removed and housing built up with metalized epoxy then remachined ,fume relief holes drilled at the bottom of the upper housing with multi layer stainless mesh epoxied in. Bench tested and recurved as required. For severe duty, I have machined the housing and installed a bearing in the upper housing as well although this operation adds considerably to the final cost.
Should be a trouble free unit for hundreds of hours.

Bad Habit, looks like you made a great choice.

Kaama,as far as extended use at high rpm,no problem,I have left one on my distributor bench for 24 hrs at 7000 rpm and recorded and graphed the performance. The hei unit is as good as a mechanical advance design distributor gets in my opinion.

Everything in one unit appeals to me. A real clean setup and all for about the price of a MSD or Mallory distributor alone. Sounds good to me!
