Default ALPHA Questions

Current- 1987 Baja Force 280 with twin 454s and aplha R/H drives

Found a new L/H Alpha One Gen 2 with 1:47 gear ratio.

Will the gen 2 work with my other alpha?
Anyone know what my current ratio should be?
What is involved to change the 1:47 ratio? Cost?

Thanks, Jim

The Gen 2 won't bolt up to your current gimbal and transom assembly. You would need to replace that as well. You could probably pick that stuff up for a couple grand.

Jon,

Do you have first hand experience with trying to convert the alpha 1 to a gen 2? Another source stated they thought it would bolt up.

Anyone out there have experience? Can you bolt up a gen 2 to an aplha 1?

Thanks, Jim

Jimmy, the big block alphas usually had 1.33 ratios because of the added torque. I am fairly sure that the a1 and a2's will not interchange, but regardless of that a big block will have prop issues with the 1.47 and would bust it more quickly than you would want. If you are keeping the boat for a while you may want to consider a swap to bravo1's. Good luck with it.

Thanks Guys

Is the lower the same? If so, couldn't I just switch the lower? I'm told that's where the counter rotation actually happens?
