Metal In Oil
I checked my oil before changing it after I de-winterized last week and found some very fine brass looking filings on the dipstick. This will only be the 3rd oil change since the motor was built, I did not build the motor. I've never had a motor do this. wondering if anyone has seen this on a motor breaking in? I can understand bearings doing this on the first oil change but any burs should be off by now.:(

Brass...hmmm... does not make sense. Come to think of it, the only thing I can think of that is "brass" is the drain plug on my block for water.
What else is brass with a motor where it could come from. Never even heard of bearings doing that before? |
I hate to be the berer of bad news but the Brass is the inner material in your bearings your bearings are toast.......I cant think of any other way you can get brass in the oil! I wouldn't run it or you may trash the crank or throw a rod...

Could it be bronze from the distributor drive gear if your running a roller cam?
I'd think you'd be hearing something, like a knock, if the bearings where that bad.  |
Thanks man but you know if it breaks Its gonna be when I'm out in the middle of lake erie alone on a stormy day.

They say the bronze gears wear fast.
GM recomends a "melinized" gear for the new 502. Part #gm 10456413 |
