I spent 32 hours on a 26ft boat. From fiberglass paint striper to wet sanding to buffing with Blue Magic metal polish . If your carefull and don't sand thru your gel coat nobody will ever know you had bottom paint on it in the first place. Be prepaired to do alot cussing and crying from the fumes. 8.5mph GPS after all this

After sand blasting. If you look closely, you can see the gel coat under the bottom paint actually looks whiter than were there was no bp.

Notice all the sand around the boat. It took 550 pounds of sand.

Try West Marine Paint Stripper. Then remove it after the paint softens with a pressure washer. Sure beats scraping and gouging the gel coat. It took a saturday to do our 26'.

You might want to try one of these products:

http://www.ibacktonature.com/Pages/strippers.html

I was talking to them a few months ago when I found a boat with bottom paint on it that I wanted to buy. They said to roll it on, wait 24 hours and then hit it with a pressure washer and the bottom paint will come right off.

I think that BoatUS might sell these Back To Nature products too.

I'm using peel away right now. I'll post some pics of the progress (I was expecting more from the product)

The easiest way to do this is use 80 grit on a DA to remove all the paint to gel, then 180 the gel ,2 good coats of a quality 2 part primer then sand w/320 and apply your favorite paint mine is, PPG
Concept in this case.Idid all of this procedures in a 3 day weekend and was well worth it boat looks 100%better and picked up 10mph!!!!!And buy the way this is a vary dirty job.
Have fun and good luck
Later

P.S. to hell with all the wet sanding and buffing
And one more thing if anti-fouling makes a boat faster then Y dont i see any one in APBA Offshore runn Anti-fouling HUH??????

10MPH? That sounds a bit optimistic. The local F1 team goes so far as to even get under the boat before a race with a belt sander real quick.
