i'm looking at a 89 formula 357 with trs outdrives.
never owned a boat with trs.
when we test drove the boat ( which went fine ) the transmissions made some sort of noise while in reverse. the current owner tells me this is normal. is this o.k. ?
thanks for any help,

I'm sure you'll hear from other TRS drive owners but I would imagine what you heard was the reverse gears.
I don't have TRS drives but I do remember what my Dads twin inboard sounded like in reverse. Kind of a cross between a whine and growl.
The transmissions have to change the output direction to opposite that of the engines.

The TRS/MerCtransII units make practically no extra noise in rev. even though they are driving thru the planetary system in that gear. You will definitely hear the gear whine in rev. if they are B/W trannys. --- Jer
