Default Valve Lash solids

How often do you guys running solid lifters check the valve lash. Hours?

Probably a dumb questions but here goes. I have always checked lash with a HOT / Warmed motor. Could you check the lash when hot then let the motor cool over night and recheck the lash. Note the difference when the motor is cold vs hot. Could you then adjuster valves cold in shop while the motor is cold? Sometimes I get these hair brained ideas.

With the valvetrain issues I've had I check the lash usually after every two to three times out. It only takes about 45 minutes anyways.
I check mine cold , I'd rather do it when the motor is warm but everytime I start the boat I get a visit from the cops. I have iron heads and Jesel rocker arms so the movement isn't much.

I run Jesels and check them every 10-15hrs. Usually they stay put...a few might move .002" Usually you can hear them rattle a little more than normal when 1 or 2 get looser than .005"I do mine cold and allow for about .002" movement. Polylocks need to be checked every couple of hrs...NO FUN.

Thumbs up

Thanks guys. I was hoping every oil change about and it sounds like it should not be a problem. Much easier and cooler to adjust in the shop or under the shade tree for sure. Yea I would like to keep my neighbors happy also. No poly locks and I run a stud girdle. Maybe jesel next go around.

jdnca1: Are you running Schubeck radius lifters?

Yes, very little time on them though because I have 2 boats now. They made the same power as standard roller lifters with .050" less lift in my 632". They weigh half of a standard lifter so you can run a lot less spring.
