Milord, i am interested to know what combo you decided to go with as i am doing about the same thing with my 28 ft. Cig.(1991 350c.i.) small blocks (twins). I havent decided on everything yet but so far either Stelling, Lightning, or EMI exhaust.(Pricing pretty good on these) World Prod.Torquer 2 heads, Edelbrock Perf.Rpm Int, Holley 600cfm carb.I am not sure on what cam & lifters yet.I also would like to see around 400 h.p. Maybe we can exchange some ideas on how to get there.

I went the stroker route. Forget the stock displacement if you're going to be rebuilding anyway. For a very few dollars more you can get 33 CID more. The torque produced by the 3.75 stroke vs. the 3.48 is incredible especially in a marine application. On the dyno I was pushing over 400 ftby 2500 RPM. The power needed to get on my heavy 4 Winns on plane was almost cut in half. Before the stroker went in I was running a 355 with the same cam and unported Vortec heads. I needed to bust about 3500 RPM to even think of getting on plane with a Mirage 17P (Alpha drive). Now the boat is on plane at a liesurely 1900 to 2000 RPM with a ton of power on tap. I need to reprop in order to use the new motor properly (I'll be testing that this coming season).
I'm also going to change the cam. I'm running more compression with the Vortec heads than most would... about 10.3:1. I plan on running hi-test fuel from the pump (when trailered) and I'll keep some sort of octane boost on it just in case I need to fill up on the water (with how I boat though, the 100 gallons that it holds should be fine for me). Anyway, I'm going with more cam since the 262H is rather timid with the stroker. We haven't decided about what we're going to put in there though. ower levels should jump from the 390 mark to well into the 400 HP range. Man that Alpha drive is going to be pissed!

good compression (you can use more with the Vortec heads... very resistant to detonation)

Instead of rebuilding my 350. I decided to build a whole new engine.. 4 bolt block, 383ci, forged crank, H beam rods, srp pistons dished 9.8 cp w/full floating wrist pins, crane roller cam #109831, full roller valvetrain, vortec heads with 7/16 screw-in studs and guideplates, edelbrock air gap intake and a 750 holley..blah..blah..blah I could go on and on.. I am going for 390-400 hp hopefully

Nah... haven't had it out yet. I had to have abdominal surgery back in December so it has been sitting since the last time I said anything about it.

I run the factory Q-Jet on top of a Edelbrock Performer Vortec. With the change of the cam I'll mre than likely sell my Performer and pick up a Performer RPM instead.
I jetted the Q-Jet with recommendations from Dennis Moore's SBC book. I used his jet and needle settings as a baseline and went from there.

I've had real good luck with the Performer RPM's and Q-Jets- GM makes a cast-iron version of the Performer RPM as well.
Q-Jets will work better if you do a lot of cruising, but if you're a WFO guy (like Travis
) a Holley may give a little more power, and of course choices in manifolds.
