will they support that many cubic inches or should I buy new heads ??Just thinking out loud!!

Dyno- I don't think its nuts, I think a guy could have a SWEET running torque monster with that combo...in fact, if you build it to limit at 5200 those heads would be closer to optimum than cw would indicate. My choice though, just dreaming, would be the Dart 265 ovals with just a little work

Check out the AFR 305 "CNC Chamber" heads. Not the CNC Ported. It even outflows their 325 "As Cast". The 315 CNC Ported is only about 4% better than the 305 CNC Chamber head.
I think a 265cc is to small for that many cubes. I am in the process of building such a motor and am trying to decide which way to go. I am wondering if 305cc is to small. The numbers look good though.

The Merlins would be great torque monster builders on the 540, but for best top end some 325's would work better. Sure there will be a slight give away in the low and mid range, but it will still be good with 325's and top end will be better.

I think becouse I have all the components from my 454's already and want to use as much as I can I'm going to build some 496's and save some $$$

Hey Dyno,my friend ran a 540 with small port merlins in a 30 ft single engine boat and goes about 85!! Big hyd cam,cmi's 950 carb,Imco bravo,ran nice good luck Tripps
