what does a superchiller do and how does it work?

A superchiller is the intercooler between the blower and the intake manifold.
It's a piece of machined aluminium with cooling water circulating inside to decrease the intake air temp heated up by the blower.

you forgot to mention that they cost a bunch of money, but on a boat they are worth it.
