So are you saying that since my best speed was with the 21p Mirage not the 17"Mirage plus and my best rpms and accell was with the 17p ballistic that we shoud go with reworking the 17" Mirage Plus right? I got the same top end with a 21p Mirage as I did with the 17p Ballistic. The Mirage only pulled 4600rpm's and I need to be hitting 5300+. Sorry lots of questions Im just wanting to make sure I get everything straight in my head...That takes some doing sometimes:D By the way are YOU confused yet......

The rpms need to come up and the 21 is to low the 17 is to high so you need a 19 pitch mirage with the acclerator design, this will raise the rpm to where it needs to be and give you the best ALL AROUND performing prop.we can pitch the 21 to a 19 or 17 up to a 19 either way probably would be easier to work the 21 to the 19 pitch. :D

as far as converting the Ballistic to a ACCLERATOR it cant be done, wrong type of prop, it has to be a Mirage.

but since you don't like the solid hub on the 21 then use the 17 pitch mirage converting to the ACCLERATOR.

Hey Darin got my prop on wednesday and tried it out yesterday. it looks great cant believe it was the old quicksliver prop i sent you. results even though it was repitched from a 19 to a 21 the holeshot is better acceleration is better and top speed 2mph faster (on speedo i dont have gps) thanks I am very happy with it.

Darin,
got the prop on friday, looks good!! Im gonna try to run it by this weekend. Ive got a stock "mint" 23 mirage (what I started with) to run some comparisons.
We'll try to run them on two boats a 242 Checkmate and a 272 Baja.

what is everyone interested in? time to plane, top speed or what. we'll try to get all the info possible.

should we start a new thread on this?

boatn70 05-07-2004 08:29 AM

tested it out thursday!!

here you go:
Thursday 5-7-04, 76 deg f, calm water, not even much ripple at times. humidity was high, rain light- on and off.

1998 242 checkmate convincor 454 300 hp stock

stock mint 23 mirage plus
0-30 in 10 sec
30-50 in 13 sec
top speed 57.6mph gps @ 4600 rpm

houston modified accel mirage plus 23
0-30 in 11sec
30-50 in 12 sec
top speed 57.6mph gps @ 4400 rpm

1999 baja 272 502mpi 415hp stock

stock prop (same one as above)
0-30 in 8 sec
30-50 in 10 sec
top speed 62.0mph gps @ 4900rpm

houston accel prop (same one as above)
0-30 in 9sec
30-50 in 8 sec
top speed 61.6mph gps @ 4700rpm

im not very excited about the numbers, however i know i have the prop to use when i add a little hp to my stock 300hp motor.

Darin maybe you should shed some light on this situation, the prop looks and performs well, however not at all what we expected. also, i seemed to have a mild porposing proplem at cruising speeds (3000-3500 rpm) with a little trim, with trim all the way in its just fine.

talk to me!

kevin

very interesting, sorry to hear your dissappointed.

go to teambajamarine.com look at the results there.

looks like you need some more muscle to turn the prop.

if you would like send it back and lets re-work it now.
1 day turnaround.

the top speed on this prop most always, runs 3mph faster, not sure whats up here.I guarantee the prop will and can run faster than these numbers.

Darin

boatn70 05-07-2004 11:17 AM

thanks darin

Darin,
by no means am i doubting you on this, just looking for some more input. with what youve done......i was just surprised to see a loss of 200 rs. im sure you can bring it up for me and ill see the gains, but now im thinking of a couple of bolt ons that might let me pull the 4600 im looking for and run the prop as is.

ill let you know,

BTW.......i know i need more muscle but thought i could get away with a couple mph outa the prop....maybe i will send it to you!!

Kevin Thanks for posting,I will gladly re-work the prop for you,we may need to thin a little more and reduce the cupping ,cupping is very crictal.
and if we add too much in the prop we blew-it.we just did not hit the spot on yours,we will take care of it, and get you the extra speed you deserve. ITS THERE to be had.:D :)

Thanks again, Darin

BAD-HABIT 05-08-2004 05:28 PM

Darin...I am wondering what the difference I should expect to see between a my Michagan Ballistic Prop labbed by you and A Mirage/Plus you re-work with your design. What would the difference be? I have 2 Ballistics a Mirage and a Mirage Plus...I really only need 2....So I need figure which ones to keep. I can PM you any info you need on figures etc.....Do you take trade ins?:D :D Can't hurt to ask right

Thanks

Re: Mirage conversion to ACCLERATOR

Darin, just wanted to let you know all is well with the prop. I ran this weekend and it handled just as it did when the prop was stock...only faster!

69.6 GPS and it had more but I backed out to keep from bouncing the wife around over a cruiser wake. Most of the porpoise issue is resolved! 5300 RPM

55~6 MPH at 3800 RPM

Thanks again Darin...Larry, Chesterfield VA

Re: Mirage conversion to ACCLERATOR

Darin can you give a prop recommendation for a 22' scarab with a BBC 468 running low 70's right now. Would like to trim a bit more and gain additional speed if possible, running a 26" x 14.625 dia 3 blade right now and pulling it to 5100, rev limiter not an issue, motor can handle 5400-5500 with the cam.

HOUSTONPROP 05-25-2004 12:09 PM

Re: Mirage conversion to ACCLERATOR

questin most 26 pitch props are a four blade or else yours a 25p has been worked to a 26 any idea what type of prop you currently have, let me know Darin.

Thanks

jspeeddemon 05-26-2004 08:49 AM

Re: Mirage conversion to ACCLERATOR

The 26 is a borrowed prop from a friend and I'll have to ask him the details. How far can you twist a 23 P Mirage prop, it was just not enough. As well the boat does not react well to more than a little trim, it begins losing grip and then it starts to chine walk slighlty, would a 4 blade help with these symptoms?

HOUSTONPROP 05-26-2004 04:48 PM

Re: Mirage conversion to ACCLERATOR

jspeedemon you may want to consider a four blade if you do not like the handling of a 3 blade prop a Bravo-one would be the next best thing labbed of course,we have them ready to ship :) or we can convert your Mirage to the acclerator and we can change the pitch 2"or in (mean) pitch 1.5 with some extra cupping will work fine.give me a call if you need to ?

Re: Mirage conversion to ACCLERATOR

Darin, I have a BB 22' Scarab and haven't had much luck with either a 23 mirage or 25 mirage+. Last year I put a new 22 bravo on it and I like the results, but I need more pitch. 60mph@5000 How do you think a Acclerator would for me? Does it make any differance if you start with plain mirage or a + ? Thanks, Doug

HOUSTONPROP 06-02-2004 07:13 AM

Re: Mirage conversion to ACCLERATOR

Doug a Mirage plus would be better to work with there is a better blade area to work with, you find a big difference between the ACCLERATOR AND A STOCK PROP.

outriggers 06-02-2004 10:40 AM

Re: Mirage conversion to ACCLERATOR

Darin, Would you pm me with a price to convert my 25 Mirage+ to a Acclerator? What kind of turn-around time can I expect at this time? Thanks, Doug
