I now use simple green in a sprayer used for spraying weed killer. I dilute it down with water about 50/50 and spray the entire bilge. For getting under the motors I use a duster on a pole used for cleaning ceiling fans in houses. The pole is plastic and flexible and you can get into all the tight spots. You can buy the dusters at Home Depot for a few bucks.

After blowing my transmission line, we had an oily mess in the bilge. We used Greased Lightning and hot water, I couldn't believe how clean it came. I think the hot water was the key. I disconnected the hot water to the washer and connected a hose there.
