6 drive rotation on a cat?
New Skater 36, what are the pros and cons of inboard vs outboard rotation with Sterling 825's.
Thanks, John B |
Peter at Skater should be able to help you. I run my sixes on a 35' Motion cat in. In tends to be faster and bit less stable in the turns. Turning in with a "cat" will give more stern lift, out more bow lift.

No pics yet!
Peter says it all depends. He doesn't like to ride in fast boats.... |
John, maybe Tomcat36 will post. Thier boat was rigged at lake x and is plenty fast with vi drives. I think the props rotate out. When I am sure I will post

MM, I would like to turn out for safety in turning etc. and backing control. I also wouldn't mind some bow lift in the mid range. I believe there may be more prop slippage turning out? Anybody else have input?

Turn them in for calm water, out for rough water. I liked the way we were able to carry the bow with them turning in. If you ask T2x he'll tell you out only.
BTW, nice boat. Probably my all time favorite. Good luck with it. |
I TURN MY 32 SKATER IN WITH #5'S AND IT RUNS GREAT. I DONT LIKE OUT BECAUSE IT FEELS LIKE IT TRYS TO PIN THE NOSE IN AT HIGH SPEED IN CALM WATER
|
Merlin, Are you saying turning (in) raises the bow? I thought (in) raises the stern and (out) lifts the bow.
On the old 36 with bravos (out) tended to slip more and didn't feel tight but ran the same top speed. A Bravo 36 runs so flat that you feel like it's trying to drive through waves rather than over them the mid speed range. |
John, on my 30' motion turning in increased the bow lift tremendously but contrary to popular wisdom in back to back test I lost 3-5mph. and 200-300rpm. With the outboards turning out this boat requires more trim and goes faster.

I tested my 35 Jaguar with Randy from Cobra Power with the sixes spinning out. He hated the performance so we then turned them in and that is how I took delivery. This is the first true tunnel boat, my prior boat is a 27 daytona and has a center pod and bravos and I turned them in also. I hope this helps. Doug
