Default another 500efi vs. 575sci question

Guys, I speant some time sifting through the old threads on 500's and 575's and want to ask the same question with different parameters. I am considering two different 42 fountain's, both with bravo xr drives. I hove no desire to modify either package and just want a turn key package - especially in the 100+ high humidity summers of Texas and the best resale. If the cost was the same - which would you choose?

"I have no desire to modify either package"

Your OSO membership is hereby revoked!!!

The best thing for those hot summer days is an intercooler, and you can't have one of them without a blower.

I would go with the 500 EFI's if I could not get the 525EFI package.
You will run with the 575 in the 100+ temps. And besides, for about $6500 each, you can whipple and get about 775 hp per engine. And then you will be set for some 100+ mph in the 100+ heat

Hey John,
I hear what you are saying.... I think. My 03 Pantera has a 575/xr/its (bought it used that way), and you know I've been around whipples. I'd prefer a whippled 500 over the 575 but that's me.

If you are truly not going to mess with them and the price/condition/hrs are similar I would go with the 575's, partly for bling, partly for resale, and partly because they are such a reliable, way detuned, low boost motor. They also have a mean idle for such a mild package.

With that said, if the 575's meant scoops on the hatch I would pass because that's important to my first mate.

I can also hook you up with a mild feasible whipple kit to squeeze 650 out of your 575's.

Good luck- sell your Daytona?? If not, I've got a lead for you.

I have three 575's, they idle well and run great....BUT...THEY EAT HIGH TEST FUEL VERY QUICKLY! other than that they are very solid engines. the 500's are also very good but much better on fuel.

575's eat XR's.
At least I've watched a pair feast frequently on them..

Yea, but a lot of that depends on the application, and a host of other variables- like the instrument in front of the gages. They seem to live fine in looser/shorter/lighter hulls. a 38' running surface (sorry Reggie) would seem fine to me, expecially in the predominantly calm fresh water lakes where John boats.

Resale would be better w/575's, I would think. Plus, like Cattitude said, a 575 with an intercooler kit a a few lbs more boost would be killer.
