My depth sounder is a small digital "gauge like" unit that is on the dash. i don't think it has much for output. It wasn't working that good so i took it out and put my stereo remote there. now i was looking to do away with the depth finder gauge unit, and just somehow have it read on my GPS.
what do you think ?

From the depth gauge, where does the wire go? To a black box or to the puck on the hull.
If it has a black box you should be able to sent the info to the GPS.
English NMEA = National Marine Electronics Asso

I think it goes right to the puck in the bilge. There is a 2 prong plug that is behind the dash that plugs into the depth finder. i don't think this prong comes from any black box, but rather runs straight to the puck.
So if i'm looking for a new one, i should find one that has NMEA out-puts??? this way i won't have to mount the display......i can just run the cable to my GPS (if my GPS has a NMEA input)?
