Speedo help needed.

I'm not talking about my bathing suit either.
My speedo quit working last weekend. It actually runs up to about 30 mph but no higher. I don't have a pitot tube on my transom that sticks down for a pickup either. I don't have a clue where the water intake is on this thing to pressurize the speedo. I'm assuming that maybe it is picked up in the drive or something.
Anyone have any ideas on where to start? I'd like to get this figured out for the new owner. It would really make them happy if I got it fixed prior to delivery.
Thanks all,
Buck

If the drive is a Bravo, the pick-up is in the lower part of the drive. There will be a hose attached to the drive right around the front where the 2 halves bolt together. My guess would be that the guage is bad. The same thing happened to me last year.

Bravo drive pitot picks up trash fairly often.
Take a 3/8" diameter wood dowel about 3" long.
Take a .093" drill bit and drill a hole in the dowel about 1.5" deep.
With a bench grinder, grind some notches on the shank of the .093 drill bit.
Turn it around and epoxy it into the wood dowel.
You now have a bravo pitot cleanout tool. If you drop it while you are in the water, it falls to the surface (floats). The pitot hole is about 3" deep and has a stainless tube inserted in it. In some cases of being so incredibly packed full of crap, you might have to pull the stainless tube out and clean it real good. A 1/8" drill bit can be used to "screw into" the stainless tube and then when it is wedged in there real good, you can pull the tube out with it.
cheers

mcollinstn,
I think I found the hose coming out of the drive. Looks like it picks up from inside the lower part of the drive and comes out the top side of it. I have removed this hose. Is the area where this hose was attached the part that I need to address?

buck,
Look on the leading edge of the lower gear housing on the drive just above the "bullet", you should see a tiny hole in the drive. This is where it gets clogged up. Mercury has the same set-up on their outboards and I used to clog it up all the time on my fishing boat. It would get so packed full of wood from hitting **** floating on the lake you would swear that there was a whole tree stuck in there.

Checkmate, mcollinstn, and Tonto,
Thank you all for the quick help on my question. I was able to quickly find what I was looking for thanks to you guys. I won't know until this weekend if I got it fixed or not. If not, at least I know where to start.
Thanks again,
Buck
