TRS mechanic may have made BIG Mistake--can anyone help?

Wally is correct. L & R hand lower units are different. Prop shaft end is marked (stamped) RH for right hand, and not marked for LH rotation. Sounds to me like the "service" dept is handing you a BIG bucket of BS.

Sounds like BS to me.
MBAM, wouldn't running the drives in reverse really mess up the drives though. I thought that was the reason the gear is cut that way. Unlike a bravo where the pinion and drive gear is straight cut and can turn either way...???

Thanks for all the feedback. The service department has offered a 6 month warranty--parts and labor--if trannies fail or have problems.
The alternatives are just pull engines and rebuild them now or see what happens and hope the warranty is worded properly and they stay in business that long.
I think the warranty is a good comprimise and honorable admission of error.
Will keep everyone posted.

sorry to bring this old thread up.. but is this right...
i have a right upper and a lower that acts like a left....
blew a right lower last season and when i put this spare lower on it acted as if a put the wrong prop on.. i think the lower is a left ...
is this the way it will be marked??? L & R hand lower units are different. Prop shaft end is marked (stamped) RH for right hand, and not marked for LH rotation.
thanks for the help...stecz

It is correct. One rotation the prop shaft gear is in front of the verticle shaft gear, in the other rotation it is behind it. The upper is the same. The prop shaft is what is different.

It's different on the lower though. The drive gear is in the front of the case for standard and in the rear of the case (propshaft carrier) for the rev. rotation.
When the drives are off the boat just turn the drive shaft to the right. If the prop spins in the same direction that's the port drive (left), if it spins in the opposite direction that's the starbord side drive (right). (if you have the props turning out) The counter rotating drive seems to be the ones that fail first.
