These are 454 motors with a small charger on them. I think they are the 250 range such as a B&M. A valve job would be a must. Becuause you don't probably know the full history of those motors. Overheated, Gas choices, How often serviced, etc. The last thing you want to do is drop a valve seat. You need to do a compression check and cylinder leak down test. I would be willing to bet there is some leakage past some of your exhaust valves.

I've got a single 525sc in my Pantera. I just freshened the top half of the engine at 330hrs and added a roller cam. Everything was in better shape than I would have thought. I needed to have a valve job done due to some water getting into one of the cylinders and it pitted the valve.

I change the oil every 25-30 hours and run synthetic. The only other maintance other than a normal engine is to change the blower lube every 50 hrs or so. I also check the level every 10 or so hours.

The engine is completely turn key and reliable.

i've heard the 52sc reffered to as the "best merc blue engine produced" so it seem to be pretty well liked. Good power, good reliabilty. i believe the supercharged used on it was the wiend 177.

as for checking out same checks that you'd do on a non blower motor. YOu might wnat to measure the boost pulley and see what size it is so you can figure dout how much boost they were running.

Hey Griff, did the Roller cam make a difference? Did you see an increase in R's after the rebuild. Which cam and why did you select it. I will probably freshen my 525's over the winter. Any other suggestions other then intercoolers and smaller pulleys for little more HP?
