Angry Quick and Quiet too Loud

I just had to do a DB check with the marine patrol, and failed. NH's standard is 82 and I was 83.5 (give me a break).

I've got stock Q & Qs. Went through the exhaust and notice one of the rings was missing. I replaced it. That may be enough, but I don't want to take any chances.

I've got to get re-tested tomorrow and wanted to see if anybody had any ideas for temporary things I could do.

I was planning on tapping off my air intakes and seeing if I could stuff some steel wool (with a screen) into each of the tips.

Any other ideas?

Maybe getting some more water into the exhaust stream would help. Look at the check balls in the thermostat housing and see if you can rig them to let a little more water through temporarily.

Anyone else? Would this work?

Bob, I wouldn't do that Anyway, I passed, 82 db on the nut.

Didn't see XXX, but some of my friends saw it by West Alton, they said it was pretty sick.

Boat may be for sale in the spring, I may move over to a Sea Ray, have to ponder that over the winter.

Anyway, had Rob paint the glove box, dash is next.

What engines? If they are carbed, you could try lowering the idle rpm a bit. If you have the Q&Q that doesn't have the valve, you may not be getting enough water in the external mufflers at idle, it may be going into the hub exhaust.

I don't understand these ridiculous db levels. I can understand going after the obvious, but 83 db is too loud? Typical over reaction from our legislators.

Interestingly, they make you do 4 passes, 2 at mid-speed (both directions) and 2 at WOT. The steel wool did the trick, but each pass was louder as since the steel wool was disintgrating

I think my passes were 77, 79, 81 and 83 (db). When I got back to the boat house, there wasn't much steel wool left
