Default What Batteries?

I need to replace the batteries in my 32 Fountain w/twin 502 Mag EFI . My normal use is getting from A to Z as fast as possible , then anchor and jam the stereo for multiple hours. I have an on-board battery charger that runs from shore power (plugged in all the time) when boat is at home on trailer. What battery do you suggest in a Group 24 size.

I am not sure on all the "group" sizes but I will make two suggestions. If you want the best then get the Stinger batteries made by AMP of America. I believe it is www.aampofamerica.com There battereis are the best I have ever used. I had one of their little motor cycle batteries in my Ford F250 and it started up fast every time. They recharge quickly. Gell batteries I do believe should be charged up slowly..... Now if there batteries are to expensive then the Ultima's are a good choice also.

I bought a Die-Hard Marine battery mainly because it fits my battery hold down and the price was right. I think most of the modestly priced batteries work fine. I just replace them when the 24 mos. is up. My engine always started without a problem. Optimas, etc. are twice the price. I don't know if it is worth the added expense.

Well I bought two AC Delco's, one a cranker and other a dual crank/deep cycle. I think it will work fine. I will use the deep cycle on the side that my accessories are running off.
Thanks for the replies and hey Dave M , I grew up in Wash DC area and LaPlata. My family still lives off of Bryan's Road.

Hey MiamiVice,

I've been in Charles County for a bout 11 years now. I might know your family. I use the ramp at Marshall Hall sometimes. Let me know when you are coming up.

Optima has just about 50Ah 12V but a high starter force up to about 900 Amps for a short time. But you don't need this actualy for a 502. What you need is a lot of Ah (Amp-hours). Some of the best are Trojan deep cycle batteries and together with a strong starter battery. Buy some with 80Ah and more so you could leave your stereo on some hours more... ;-)

Also a Pulser would be a good idea to keep the plates free from sulfating. This is a good link there for:

and:

good luck!

Here is some good batt info. I bought a Stinger batt a 4 years ago and they are great batt's like audiofn said. But the stingers batts are just rebadged and the price marked up on them. I replaced last yr with SVR group 24's dedicated for the stereo.
