I had an Odyssey last almost 20yrs. Would trickle charge it before winter and again in the spring since it sat in a shelf in unheated area in NE Ohio.

This reads almost like an oil thread. I've personally had high end batteries fail after a few years and cheap batteries last 10+ years. Therefore I am not brand loyal and will buy the cheap RV/Marine batteries that Costco or Menards usually have on sale. Like everyone says, keep them charged and bring them indoors in the winter if possible.

I stopped selling interstates about 6yrs ago. They weren’t doing as well as they used to, say up to about 10-12 yrs ago.

I had Interstate , because like snap on, they delivered right to the shop. Not many co’s do that in my area. Very rural. Unlike snap on, they rotate your stock and only charge you for what you used/sold. :wink

Just relaying my experience, which can differ from others, of course As an fyi, i’ve probably sold 400-500-600 or more batteries.? Auto and marine combined. Installed more than 95% lof them ?

edit in: all boats i winterize i fully charge batteries (how i found bad one above i pic’d ) and in spring, do so again.

Helped neighbor with his Honda watercraft yesterday.
Lead acid battery in it was on it's last leg.
Barely started on trailer after 2 days on 6a charger.
Told hi time for new.
He says only two years old and the original Honda batteries lasted over 10 years.
I thought he had to be wrong.
He swears no, two small powersport lead acid batteries lasted over ten years.
Told him I have yet to have one similar last 2 years, usually 1 and 1/2.
Wish I knew what he had that lasted 10+.

Went out today to start winterizing the PWC's. My Deka AGM just gave up the ghost while trying to start the PRO 785 to fog it. Sticker is from 6/15.

I know it's not the same as a boat battery, but I've had good luck with the Deka AGM in my PWC's. So I bought Deka lead acid group 31's for the boat. Hopefully they last since they were made during the covid years.

So.... What's the consensus?

Both batteries in the boat were Interstates from 2017 when we bought the boat in April of '21. One of them took a dump on us over the previous winter, so it got replaced last spring. Hit the sunduck switch the other day, and it was sluggish as Hell. I had to pull both batteries out for my current pop-up cleat project, so I loaded them into the car and took them both to AutoZone. The new one tested good, but the older one failed. Being six years old, I'm not surprised, especially since its brother died last year. Time to replace it, as well. We had decent luck with the Duralast batteries from AutoZone in our previous boat. Is there any real reason to go to something more expensive? If so, recommendations?

Odyssey and Lifeline are $400 + but they last

I hate to say it but the Everstart from Walmart have lasted longer than the optima's and other top brands for me. It's my go to replacement now on everything we have marine and auto, except for the BMW which everstart doesn't make one for.
