Those Dakota's look interesting but at $600 + I'd have to get a new charger I think I will stick with Interstates which I've used for over 20 years without a failure. However, I run no more than 5 seasons on them and then replace.

Price kind sucks

But the last 3 pairs I have purchased are questionable after 2 years.
Something has changed, battery tenders are not helping extend them either

Join date of 2/2001 - but I had to reup when the site blew up after an upgrade. I joined in 2000.

Batteries + Bulbs (formerly Batteries Plus) sells a marine battery with a non-prorated 48 month warranty. I think it's called the X2, it has a blue top, and I paid about $375 a piece back in 2020-ish. If it fails at 47 months you get a brand new battery, just like that.

I went with Duracell - American-made by East Penn. So far so good.

I had a pair of Walmart marine batteries that I kept on the shore power charger - didn't even make two years.

My 2 cents worth, and a bit of experience.

Many batteries work, but the trick is(one trick at least) is to keep the battery charged 24/7/365. Batteries do not like it when they discharge, even for a short time. Damage occurs when they discharge.
When I come in, on the charger they go. Most chargers these days go thru cycles, but then HOLD the batteries at 13.4 volts. That's where the batteries like it the best for their longest life.

West Marine has one for $100, BC15BWM 15amp, or used to be $100, that works great, but there are probably many other brands. But it holds it at 13.4 volts. model BC15BWM. Best I've bought for the money.

I bought a B&D brand recently that looked identical to the West Marine, but it lets the voltage drop to 12.7, then the charger starts up and brings to 13.4V. That's better than nothing, but i like the one that holds it at exactly 13.4 volts. I typically buy a set of battieries every 5-6 years, and haven't had one fail yet. Just get a plain marine starting battery.

i would be elated if i could get three years out of batteries. Nothing else in my engine room lasts that long anyway.
