But I have formed some pretty good opinions about people from what they say and how they treat people. I think that most regular posters on this particular board are very straight up people. You included. But you are right about knowing somebody personally when it's big money. I would be tempted to go GET to know them for that kind of money.

Didn't mean to put you on the defensive. Just a vote of confidence in many folks on OSO.

Good luck. Have a good night.
No problem

But I will address that I don't expect anybody to purchase anything like a pair of motors without complete information, pictures, history, and a personal inspection (or two). And Gerard (Semper), you kind of make it sound like you were being pressured to make a decision on partial information and unresolved promises. Not the case at all. While I was trying to make good on getting detailed information on motors that are currently 500 miles away, you changed your mind. No problem. But to say, "but I don't know him or his friend and spending $29K on motors I don't have any info on....no pictures, serial #'s, engine hours, etc.... doesn't sit right with me." sort of makes it sound like I was trying to twist your arm off. Or to get some sort of deposit. That's not how I try to operate. I never received your email address or phone number, so how was I to know that you had reached the "serious point" of purchasing negotiation and it had become imperative to deliver information rapidly or risk being branded as a scam seller?

I apologize for mentioning your name in this thread if you have taken some offense to it. Wasn't my intention. I see no reason for offense, as the entire reason for this thread was to show you some pictures and people may want to know why you decided not to purchase. On my side, I had rather people know you just got cold feet on a private party Internet deal, instead of people thinking you actually found something wrong with these motors. Cause these motors are going to be sold (unless the owner changes his mind again and decided to keep them) and this forum represents a pretty significant slice of the market pool of buyers out there for them. For these motors to be "silently branded" as being unworthy doesn't help me any in finding a new home for them. And these motors are worthy.
MC,
No offense taken. I think you are a straight up guy, I didn't think you were pressuring me at all---You actually are very professional and quite helpful, I just didn't have enough info to make a solid decision on a purchase of that much $$$. I wasn't try to offend you by saying "I don't know him or his friend and spending $29K on motors I don't have any info on....no pictures, serial #'s, engine hours, etc.... doesn't sit right with me." Like I mentioned earlier, I just didn't have enough info to base a decision on.

I also want to make it clear that I didn't base my decision on the motors themselves, I have never seen them or have any knowledge about them. I did base my decision on the fact that I would have to go personally (fly there) see the motors, have them inspected ($$$), and then shipped home (more $$$) to SoCal. that is the reason I have decided NOT to purchase the motors. If I lived nearby it would be easier and a different story.

Just want to add my .02.

I personally know mc and have met the boats owner (JJ) numerous times on our lake. Further, my business has done business with the owner's past company for many years until he sold out sevreral years ago. I run the same poker runs as JJ and have always found him to be honest and a gentelmen. I've seen the 575's with the Chillers and yes they do exist and yes he has had the drive problems.

I have no reason to doubt anything that MC has said. If I could fit use those motors under my hatch properly I'd be interested, but I'd rather upgrade boats instead.

BTW - Mike, is Jimmy thinking of trading the MTI? It's been a couple years with the same boat!

Take care,
Jeff

Thumbs up Re: 575SCi Mercs

Semper,
Thanks for the clearing that up. We're cool.

Hey Jeff. Long Time No See.

JJ was looking to trade the 575 boat for the sister boat (that he originally bought but re-sold before taking delivery) with the Number Sixes on it. Thought he had a deal on it, but the broker had been selling two different stories to the buyer and seller and it sent sour.

JJ loves the current boat, but has gotten very frustrated with drive issues. He has swapped back and forth, coming close to doing everything from grafting sixes on this boat to keeping the BMaxes. The current plan is to keep the boat. I guess that could change at any time!

Didn't see you out this year. On occasion I did see your dock empty but didn't run across you on the water. Took my rocket jetski by your dock a few times planning to get you to ride it, but no sign of humans there...

happy holidays.

Sorry I missed you this year Mike! I actually ran the boat more this year than ever in the past. I had the motors done by Sexton's Racing last winter and they ran great this year!

I'd love to thry your Ski and I need to get you out in my boat next year.

Hope you have a great holiday season as well.

Take care!

Larry Sexton is a cool character.
Did he show you some of the smallblock heads he races with? They're so custom they should have started from billet, but they're made of pieces from different heads. He came by the shop and had me do some charting via reverse engineering on some valve seat angles. He has a nice little hidden place for a shop, doesn't he?

Glad your boat ran well.

Later.
