I use Carter 140 gph mech. pumps on my 540's with 1050 Dominators that flowed 1120. WOT I still have 7 psi fuel pressure at tha carb.
# 10 all the way
Also avoid drilled 90* elbows...very restrictive. If you ust use a 90* , use a formed 90*

All good info here. Mentioned above about pickup size is extremely important.
Make sure you check them. I'm not big on electric pumps. Clay smith makes a nice
mechanical with 1/2npt ports. pumps plenty of fuel to feed 900 hp.

On my Blown 547,s I run 1/2 pickups to Wix High flow filters #10 to clay smith mechanical.
#10 to fuel rail with tap for fuel pressure gauge. 4#6,s feeding twin 850,s. Then a mallory
return style regulator after carbs then # 8 back to tank. 7psi all rpms.

If its running out of fuel on top sometimes you can see it drop on the fuel pressure gauges.
97 jetting squared sounds a little fat. Make sure you check plugs?
