Default Electrical and rigging question...

Can I extend my main ground battery cables that go to the blocks (only about 2 feet) if I properly terminate them with marine rated crimp connectors, bolt the connectors together with SS bolts, coat with liquid electrical tape, and shrink wrap a couple times.... without anything to worry about?

I am 'adjusting' a few things, and will run new main (red) power leads to the battery switches, but I cannot get to where the main ground bolts to the engine block.

Thanks!

I would prefer to crimp and solder them if possible... then shrink wrap and tape them. There are cable to cable connectors made out of copper that conduct well.

take the cables to any auto truck electrical specialist. They can extend the cables using a heavy duty crimper to any length you need.

how about buying new cables to just be safe? Chasing a bad ground can be very frustrating...

OK, he said he cannot get to the block attachment point. You should be able to with the proper tool and gymnastics if you try. Failing that I think what you want to do is find another suitable ground location and make the proper length contiguous cable. You may consider going to the next larger gauge and strapping the two grounds of the batteries together so you have the proper size ground when cranking on both batteries. It should not be a problem changing the location of the ground if there are not other circuits that could present a ground loop from the other location. What type of power package?

I have twin 496HOs and am going to 4 Optima Blue Tops from two traditional wet cell batteries. Its tricky to make 4 batteries and a 3+cubic foot sealed speaker box fit under your rear seat. However, I have come up with a solution to not move the batteries. Thanks for all the information.
