Re: Exhaust Dilema

My tail pipes are thru the transom. The CMI mufflers are clamp-on. Each muffler has a thru-bolt that eliminates any chance of blow off. My tails pipes were dry, but I drilled 5 small holes the the top of each inner pipe to add exit water to cool the mufflers. It is a clean looking set up. These air actuated mufflers really take the edge off around the docks/marina. I will try and post a picture on Monday.

Strikin,
These are the CMI Aft-Fires. My tails are 5" OD and the engines are on a 34.5" centerline.

Looks Clean Ben,
The set of CMI's have not been fit as the engines are out for upgrade :D
The exhaust is for a staggered 42 Fountain and that's all I know for now.
If the tails don't exit close to the existing holes in the transom I have a few choices.
CMI can replace the short tail and redirect the long tail $$$$$$$$$$$$
Also CMI can reduce down to 4" but I'd like to keep the larger OD.
Or I can have new holes cut out to fit tails and the old holes sealed shut.
I have a very good glass shop but is that a problem retaining the strength of the transom?
I know I've read of board members doing this but I don't know how it works out
in the long run.
Any way I look at it I'm going to have to put some sort of silencers on the exhaust.

Re: Exhaust Dilema

Dennis,
I would leave the system dry with the tails thru the transom. This way you don't have a concern about reversion. This will also eliminate the cost of the F/G work. Add up all the cost and benefits and pick your poison. Maybe CMI would work with you if you on the tail pipe mods if bought two new sets of mufflers.
