Exhaust Dilema
1 Attachment(s)
I have CMI e-tops going in their after everything is put back together.
The original exhaust had 4" tails. The CMI that's going in now has 4 1/2" tails on the OD. I would like to use a switchable muffler such as a Teague ST-450 The problem that I see is that the center holes have only 3/4" of space between them. With the 4" outlets the beauty rings were ground flat where they meet in the center. Will a switchable exhaust fit? If not can an exhaust muffler tip be used and what brand? Or do I have to have CMI modify the tails to exit through the transom and then use a muffler insert? |
Re: Exhaust Dilema
My brother and I tried 2 sets of those mufflers, they burnt up the first season. 1000 dollar exhaust tips.

Re: Exhaust Dilema
Dennis, I have the same problem with my Fountain. I had GGB make up a set of Extremes that fit together in that space. I can set you up with the same thing if you're interested. They're going to cost a bit more but they make a damn nice muffler. They come with a warranty and they stand behind there product.
And Fred's right, CLEAN THAT BILGE!!! Finn |
Re: Exhaust Dilema
Boy you guys are picky...
It was pressure washed clean when I started... :p After it's gel painted if I don't like it I may have to finish it out with awlgrip. Lofty: I've been looking at the GGB's Tell me more about the GGB tips. What did they do to make them fit? Do you have a pic? |

Re: Exhaust Dilema
This can be fixed. Re-cut the holes with a 5" hole saw to allow for sufficient muffler clearance. The believe the CMI Aft-Fires are 6" in diameter. The 4.5" tail pipes can be offset/modified by CMI. The new 4.5" beauty rings will cover the boo-boo...it's only money.

Re: Exhaust Dilema
Dennis, The outside looks nice :D
I'll go take some pics tomorrow. The parts are all down at the riggers. The GGB's are the way to go. I've been running them on mine and have many customers with them. Everyone seems to be pretty happy and haven't had any problems with them blowing out. |
Re: Exhaust Dilema
I don't like clamp on silencers. They all look funny and, let's face it, they can fall off!
