Had the Merc air on my last boat w/o any problem. Have the electric Corsa on my current one, nonproblem with it either, but it operates so much faster, and with less parts.
As far as the explosion factor using a cheapy air pump, who says you gotta mount it in the engine compartment? The plastic tubing is like $.05 a foot. Mount it elswhere.

I believe it's Thomas industries.
The compressor is the same as used on Air Shocks in cars and trucks.
We parted out a custom made 1983 760 Volvo limosine about 10 years ago that happened to have a similar compressor, just bigger.
I am looking for some parts to rebuild some of the units. In the past I have taken mine apart and trimmed the flap down a little so it doesn't dig in to the pipe, at least in the same spot !
I guess I will have to take some apart to figure out bearing and seal dimensions and or numbers.
I believe the housings were cast by Wilcox Crittenden and were anodized.
My friend has been cleaning me out of parts. His get stuck and he hit's actuator arm with a hammer and sometimes breaks them. (2 motors 4 problems !) I would like to not have to weld or fabricate if I could just buy the small parts.
I'm going to rebuild 4 of my diverters for him over the winter to replace his. And then rebuild his.
