STORMRIDER,
I very much appreciate your thread / post illustrating your engine rebuild.
An engine looks so nice when its all cleaned up. If I may ask, how many hours did your engine have before you deceided to rebuild? Are the pistons forged or hypereutectic?
Thanks much for your time and post. Keep the pic's coming.

The engine was 1989 mark IV.
It was put in the boat before I got it, so I'd go w/ JC on the hours.
Jeff did a great job cleaning up the block, crank and con rods.
I should have more pics by the end of the week.

Re: 454mag rebuild in progress
I have a similar engine 468" 731 cam same heads Dart Single Plane with a 750 Holley, and Eddie Marine Exhaust. I have asked in the past about my carb and I have been told 750 is adequate. I may be replacing it. I see you are going to run an 850. See big for this size engine, but I don't know that much. My question here for anyone that knows anything about engines, should I replace with a 750 or an 800. I have great throtle response, and the engine pulls great. It currently pulls about 5,300. Looks like the cam you are using has more duration than the Crane 731. Thanks

Re: 454mag rebuild in progress
I am running an 800 on my mild roller 454 and it still does fine on the low end. Even with my Dart single plane. Your 750 would be right on a car but I feel on a boat you need the 800 for the top end. May not help but I doubt it will hurt.

Must have had to cut a lot off those heads to get 9.5-1 with 2399's. I didnt think it was possible unless you angle cut it. But maybe not if you dont bore notch it and dont unshroud the valves in the combustion chamber. I do that and it adds up to a lot of area when your done.
