Re: Will a cherry picker (engine hoist) work for pulling an engine

I used the 2 ton Harbor Freight Model that is in this link:

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...temnumber=7620

I let the air out of the tires, but other than that, the boat was on the trailer like normal.

IHTFP, thx. Sorry for the confusion but I was asking Spectre5936 cause he had to remove the oil pan/pump. His 25 ft boat I am sure has more freeboard than my little cigarette 20. Do any of you guys know the distance from the floor to your top-decks?

I'm fairly certian that I used the same model that IHTFP was using.

thanx spectre, by any chance do you remember the distance from the floor to the top-deck of the boat while on trailer? I think that model harbor freight may work for me. thanx again.

what i did with my engine crane was where the bottom of the cylinder mounts,i made a 2 ft extension to raise the cylinder up so i don't run out of pump.now it can scape the 10 ft.ceiling.i also put a 4 cyl block on the crane for a counter balance.dave

The measurement is 54" from the driveway to the tallest point on the transom that it had to clear. BTW I pulled the carb and intake and used a VERY short chain.

i made an extension for the boom also and my cherry picker has extendable legs witch i made longer and also change cylinder location. hook on boom is 14 feet off floor and i put electric chain hoist on hook and pull motor up with that . pulled 600 cid merlins out of 33ft eliminater on trailer. cheery picker was custum not store bought

Re: Will a cherry picker (engine hoist) work for pulling an engine

I only missed clearing the back of the boat with the oil pan/pump on by about 1/2". If I had let all the air out of the tires it would have cleared but as I was tearing down the engine for a reversion issue all of that stuff had to come off anyhow.
