If this happens then more than likely it will burn up the bearing stack bearings and the gimble bearing. If you dont want to take a chance on burning up the driveshaft housing, you need to make sure that bearing is in the transom assembly with the red dot facing out like already stated.
this is what the clearanced side on the inner race is meant to accomadate. I have gotten them with the red dot on the wrong side though. its best to actaully look to see wich side of the race is shorter and install it with that side to the drive.
