While thier is seems to be some confusion over the term canopy webster's has several meanings, the one best suited, a transparent cover over the cockpit of an airplane, most canopies used in racing were from F-16's. Being in aviation for over 20 yrs, i can tell you that although they test the design, many canopy systems have failed due to large feathered objects flying into them at speeds less than Mach. The design on the JBS canopy does not use the transparent covering for structual integrity. If there are any engineer's reading maybe they can give us a physics lesson.
IMO opinion the system worked, Jeff and Joey walked away. Racing is a dangerous sport, all willing participants know the dangers.

, when the green flag drops so does the insurance.

I agree Ryan, seems 57 was hotter in the turn and may have kept their line. I don't think they realized JBS had swung in behind.
This is from my previous post about my thoughts on this...
I believe that the desription of the RIGHT turn in question suggests that JBS may have been arcing(apexing) the turn from farther outside and coming back to the next(inset) bouy.
Pier 57 seemed to be on a hotter line, going deeper in the turn, perhaps because they were aware of Lightning Strikes on THEIR inside. The fact that they were turning right means if they set their turn to be later/sharper they were coming back inside the turn as JBS was still SLIDING out in their turn.
This is the action that caused JBS to bounce inside directly in the line of L. Strikes.
Think about the begining of the "Freeze Frame" video when the F-1 boats bang together, middle one hits the inside one, then pinballs out and hits the outside one. Same idea I think.
This is just a THOUGHT as to what MAY have happened, please don't bash me.

Okay, I've watched and read and thought about this, but can someone answer for me why Pier 57 went by JBS so fast? I mean these boats are evenly matched power and weight right? Was Joey backing off to set up for the turn, because the driver can be clearly seen turning the wheel to the right prior to and after Pier passed them.

Hey Ted, See my theory in post # 104. That is my decipher of the situation.
Hope all is well. See you in Key West this year?
