I can't believe I am venturing to post on this thread since I am only a fan and a new fan at that. I have been curious and dissapointed about the fact that some of the larger boats will not be in Key West, so I made a few phone calls and got right to the top. These are some of things that I was told.
1. Conch Republic is very aware of the OSS stance
2. All Boats were invited, but under 1 sanctioning body. The CR does not want to deal with multiple race organizations, because that brings in multiple rules, and double the demands.
3. They feel in order to be a true "WORLDS" you need to have boats from outside the US, that brings in the UIM rules into the mix.
4. They do not want seperate races for OSS and SBI.
5. They feel that APBA and SBI have the most history and longevity in the sport, and that several boats are already racing in both groups already. I think they expect several boats to crossover.

These are business people and they may claim to care about the racing, but as the person I spoke to put it, "what they really care about is beds and meals". They want the City of Key West to make $, they feel that if a few boats are missing so be it, but at least they will not have to deal with feuding racing organizations.

At first I thought not having the big boats would dampen everyone's interest in going, but after posting about it in the General Disscussion I found it does not seem to make a big difference to the average fan, they will be in KW regardless.

As a fan of many of the OSS teams I am making a plea. In the interest of the sport and your fan base, could you put aside your differeces for this event and hold your year end race on a different weekend. This way if the teams want to race in both groups they would be able to.

Just got a call from the Hyatt to confirm room. The was told the new refurbished marina is "Georgous"..

The building at the end of the marina is the Ritz Carlton.

Here is last years shot from my room.

I'll be there about 1pm and may stop by the drypits first...T think racing guest registration is there..

Lets get this back on track.

I'm amazed this stuff is still on the server. Take a look how good it can get. This was Key West in 1995, during the joint World Championship between APBA, SBR, and US Offshore. These links could keep you busy for hours. I think some college kid did this and had the stories and photos up every night. Enjoy.

This is the situation I have been told...it is not very reasonable...you all need to stop cryin and try to work it out ...JC is the one making the call, I would like nothing better than to see everyone in KW...do not be so harsh when you do not know the facts...it looks like a freakin sowing circle. Now thats a cool video! I hate to sound like ball buster but that should be an advertisement for OSS. ALL the boats on there except Rio Rose are OSS boats that wont be there this year. I think they should do a video with only there SBI boats and promote there teams and sponsors instead of Teams that wont be there this year.

Who exactly do you think "they" are? This is just some real estate company that is trying to rent rooms and sell houses. Perhaps OSS should just sue them for using "misleading" video clips. :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

I never said the TV show was good if you recall. And I was only trying to suggest that it would have been better for the SBI teams to get the coverage instead of the OSS teams on the tape. Nothing more or less! Am I wrong to think the teams of SBI wouldn't want as much exposure for there sponsors as possible? Stop trying to read between the lines guys.

I have noticed , in the short time I have been a member of OSO, that the animosity of SBI/OSS between (some) racers is ridiculous...this is the problem...there is a-lot of reading between lines. We just want to race , nothing more , nothing less, and be safe. Will it ever be possible for the pissing match to stop :mad: Are we not adults? MD was trying to help.See ya in ST. Claire
