Nice !

The Brothers Motley are great guys and deserve some respect for what they have accomplished with a new boat this year. But why would anyone expect that from someone that has such good sense.

Your axe should be pretty sharp by now.... you've been grinding it for quite a while.

they werent invited as a group, jc played hardball back in the spring remember, wanted all the money for himself, quit trying to spin this.

If it were such a masterful hand, then why sugarcoat, and try and put various spins to get the OSS fleet to go to KW??
If it was a bluff , OSS called it and did their own thing had their worlds in ST Pete, its called "intregity". Just as the followers of SBI/APBA/UIM/WPR, they have intregrity and loyalty to that group. It's that simple, where teams go from here well thats up to them to decide, where they think, their sponsor money will be spent best, (that includes the guys who do have the deep pockets)and sponsor themselves.

this thread was simply started as a fictious match-up, skater vs mti, 2 different boats to different organzations. 2 different personality groups.

you can put as many spins on this very old subject but the fact remains there will be two offshore races being run that week, one in KW, and one in St Pete. as for 2006.
only time will tell. and as a fan, volunteer, racer, or just a opinated person. go where you money serves you best, be it KW, ST. Pete, or right at home.

At this point in the year it is what it is. teams , fans must decide where their dollars will be spent. what is the point if OSS would do the same thing, furthermore it is just speculation. enjoy the rest of the season for what it is, not what we spectulate it could be.

he wanted it his way and it didnt go like that, sure human nature, we all want it our way but in reality we must play the cards we are dealt. as for the term hardball, he gave a ultimatum, remove KW from OSS schedule or face a law suit, call it what you will sounds like hardball to me.

Couple of points here -

1. The fans (sorry to say) have NO impact on the decisions of SBI or OSS
- Fans simply do not pay the bills- Fans buy magazines, fill hotel rooms
drink beer etc... SBI and OSS do not get a direct cut/ piece of the
action. Hands down Key West is the place to watch a boat race and
have a great time in the compressed space of Duvall Street. The town is
set up to show people a good time and the boat races are an excuse to
come. The very best second site on either circuit will always be # 2 no
matter what the quality of racing is.

2. SBI & OSS have two different business plans - Many business with
similar products survive side by side - McDonalds & Burger King do well
across the street from each other serving the same product. The
difference here is the product is low cost and population and customers
are plentiful - In our case Offshore racing the product are drivers &
boats that are and will continue to be expensive. The boat population
reflects the cost. There is simply no reason to dream that these two
organization can or will ever merge - just does not make good business
sense. (The exception is the KW worlds were fixed cost could be
amortized). There is no good way to increase the race boat population.

3. For racers the more boats to beat the better for bragging rights and the
more the challenge. However per the rule books when a class has max
number of boats the pay day is all the same and will never equal the
expense of getting to the race or the capital cost of the boat/engines. If
the boat racers were to pretend for a minute to be business men then
the classes would max out at 5 and the odds of return on investment
would be 2x a ten boat field. Ok ok ok so we don't do this for money, it is
for ego and then we knock the promoters for the same fault ?

4. Most race sites can not handle more than 50 boats unless the format
goes to multi day racing. Coast guard permits, closure to sea ways, sea
animals etc... it is just not realistic in this day and age to have boat races
with 100 boats at each race. Back to the money thing - very difficult for
Parks, Marina etc.. to make money after giving up valuable space.

5. The group/ organization that has low overhead or can find a way
to make money at offshore racing is the winner - and the fans will then
have the opportunity to hang out at the best places. Management from
each offshore organization that has ever existed understands that it is
more fun to watch 100 boats then 30 boats, but has to run a business
and not be held accountable to the fans. Race promoters have huge
liabilities and have to offset this with insurance and profits to keep the
wheels turning - they have to pay the bills.

6. Couple of voices have spoken up to say "stop all the fighting" between
racers and between organizations - If you don't like to read, then turn off
your machine. Strong opinions, views and criticism is what makes our
American Flag wave so proudly in the breeze high above our homes. If
you are going to punch one another in the nose then this great country
also has a legal system to deal with that (exception being OJ). And let
your voices be heard

* None of this was important to me until I read in a thread " ISS" (Inshore Super Series) - you guys crack me up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep up the good work

This thread started out as CMS kicking butt .........looks like someone got worried and changed the subject !!!
