I use to have a 96 24 with a 502 415hp and it ran 72. Just the facts. The 24 was a great boat. Good luck with yours.

Sometimes the smaller P5 boats combat the waves better than bigger P5 boats, in certain sea conditions. Weight distribution and long k-planes play a big role too.

Litlguys,

Besides horsepower to push the boat, the class will be determined by your max speed based on a prop calculation taking into account max rpm (rev limited), prop pitch and drive ratio. Prop calc is: Max RPM x Prop Pitch x .01 / drive ratio / 12 = max speed

As a few of the guys have mentioned, P5 is probably the best class for that boat. In SBI/APBA, with a 1.5 drive ratio and 5600 rpm you can use up to a 23 pitch prop, at 5400 rpm a 24 pitch prop. I think OPA uses the same prop calc (Jersey Boys please chime in if I'm incorrect).

Glad to see a new boat coming out. Don't hesitate to ask if you've got any more questions. As you can see from this post, a lot of guys are willing to help get someone new started in this sport we love so much....caution though...you will get hooked!

Re: What should I run

Sean, you are correct. We do follow the same rules. Prop calc is the same. Only difference up here is if you feel the prop calc doesn't work out on you boat. One of our inspectors will run it with you and adjust prior to the race. You must also have a particular rev limiter mounted in a particular location, with all wiring exposed. We issue rev chips.
