Roughest Race??

So what is the roughest race you have ever been in. PP for us. Bent all the motor mounts. You can vote more than once if it is always rough at all of those races for you. :D

Bill is right "04" was the worst water I have ever raced in or that I have ever seen. Bill is being kind I think it was even bigger but I dont think it matters it was BIGGGGGGGG !!!! I have never seen an inlet like that !

the roughest water goes to miami 2004 every bit of 10 to 12. the bigest wave goes to kean univerity 2005 when them crazy basterd got tossed. Rough water is fun but it will hurt your boat!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Miami '04 was ridiculous!!

Although, '05 wasn't a picnic. I was Capt. of the boat that had to fish out the 2 guys from Kean. If you have seen the on-board video you can see how much air was involved......

I raced in Miami 04 and 05 and SWAM IN 04. Definately rough, Daytona was worse. Didn't have the fortune of running Cape Cod so I cannot comment. As far as the poll races, I would have to say AC then Point then Lauderdale but all pretty brutal. The things that stand out to me with AC and point both in 04 were the rough chop on top of big swells
Dania this year was no slowch either...come to think of it most races were rough for me
My best Pic was AC 04

Re: Roghest Race??

Our very first race point pleasant 2001 Early May. Spent three years building the boat and destroyed it in 20 minutes. Went out the inlet went up in the air, came down, broke the dash in half, the helm fell out, broke the deck, blew out the floor we stand on, Dropped two bulkheads in the bilge, and we were not even to the mill yet. Ran the race with the helm between my legs. Last lap, broke the bolster in half. All in all, had the time of my life. I will never forget my very first race. Tony P of Bad Boy powerboats Glassed it back up and 65 races later it never broke again. I would go back and do it all over again. Smitty

Re: Roghest Race??

2003, first race of the OPA Season, Point Pleasant, NJ. Kevin's first race with me, hit the hole at turn one with freeze frames helicopter just in front of us, went into the hole hit the throttles forward and came up at Jeff's side door of the copter. Good thing he had an ALERT pilot. Jeff said the condo was outta the water at least 10-12 feet and he has the photos to prove it. We came down, hit and the refrigerator fell out, blew out all the doors inside, pulled both seats outta the floor and broke both deck hatches. WOULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN! Atlantic City is next, same race as ScottyB. After all that NYC was the water that KNOCKED ME OUT! Go Figure.

Grand Haven Michigan. Was it '84?

I remember Gentry leading but breaking right before the finish and Copeland winning. I think their average speed was in the high 50's or low 60's. Those boats weighed about what 2 new Skater 46's weigh. Unreal

Miami hands down in 04` I was in my 28 Pantera and never made it to the milling area, submerged the boat in the inlet three times next to Bill from Taboo and lost power. Bill`s 42 Fountain was next to me and it looked small in those waters. Thanks to the Coast Guard assistance they were able to hook me up and clear me from the rocks.

How about the stuffing it in Key West, even though it was only out testing....Orange Beach '03 doesn't qualify, the course had to be moved.

1st race 04 out front in point the wind turned south east could not carry them stuffing with less then 1/4 lap and spun the belt due to water in bilge
2 hour tow. It got ugly on our first race!

Point

Bruce's wake, (if you want to call it that) is in the background.
It took us 3 laps to finally get past him.
We were lucky and sustained no major damage.

Re: Roghest Race??

Argentina without a doubt 20ft plus waves. A couple of the boats turned around and went back in.

Finally found out why they have a milling area, the waves were breaking over the boat, we had to keep it on plane to mill. The start boat was a navy destroyer, I dont think there were any turn boats.

The plumber was one of the ones that turned around.

2nd place was atlantic city I think in 93 still have a poker chip from caesars.
